San Bernardino County is the largest county in the country by area, and most of it is desert and mountains far from us.
Marco's reaches only the west end of San Bernardino County, the part closest to our Duarte office: Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Montclair and the neighborhoods next to Claremont. This inland valley is hotter than the San Gabriel Valley, and systems work hard. Our own technicians repair and install AC, heat pumps and furnaces here. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Overview
San Bernardino County is the largest county in the country by area, and most of it is desert and mountains far from us. We serve just the west end of the valley floor, where the county line meets Los Angeles County near Claremont and the 210 and 10 freeways cross into Upland, Montclair and Rancho Cucamonga. It is the eastern edge of our service area.
This part of the inland valley gets noticeably hotter summers than Pasadena. Air conditioners here run long hours from late spring into fall, and attic equipment in two-story homes takes a beating. Winter nights near the foothills get cold, and strong wind events, including Santa Ana winds, sweep across the area. Our technicians come prepared for both.

Montclair and parts of Upland have postwar and 1960s homes, single-story with attic ducts and a garage or closet furnace. Original ducts in these homes often leak and pull in hot attic air. Downtown Upland has some older houses from its citrus era, a few with wall furnaces. Rancho Cucamonga is mostly newer, built from the late 1970s onward, with many two-story homes in master-planned neighborhoods and attic air handlers above the bedrooms.
North of Foothill Boulevard in both Upland and Rancho Cucamonga, homes get larger as the land rises toward the mountains, with high ceilings, big windows and more wind exposure. These homes often need zoning or two systems to stay comfortable in summer.
Common problems
Inland afternoons often pass 100 F during heat waves. Systems run nonstop, and capacitors, contactors, fan motors and compressors fail more often than in milder places.
Two-story homes put air handlers and ducts in attics that get far hotter than outdoors. Drain clogs, overflowing pans and leaking ducts are common results.
Santa Ana winds and other wind events can be strong across the west end, especially near the foothills and toward the Cajon Pass corridor. Debris clogs coils and wind can damage vent caps.
Some past replacements matched the old unit's size without a load calculation. In this heat, an undersized system cannot keep up. We size from the home itself.
Postwar and 1960s homes in Montclair and Upland often have leaky original ducts. Sealing or replacing them improves cooling and is often required under Title 24 on replacement.

AC repair and AC replacement lead in this hot inland area. Heat pump installation is a strong option when an AC and furnace both need replacing, since modern heat pumps handle high summer temperatures and mild winters well. Attic insulation and duct sealing reduce the attic heat that drives much of the summer load, often letting a smaller system do the job. AC maintenance before summer cleans coils and tests parts, which prevents many breakdowns during the hottest weeks.

Learn moreSpring is the best time to service or replace an AC in the west end, before inland heat arrives in force. If your system is older, has a refrigerant leak or struggled last summer, call early so you have time to compare options. Many HOAs in Rancho Cucamonga have rules on outdoor equipment placement, so check before moving a unit.
After strong wind events, look at your outdoor unit and roof vents for debris or damage. During heat waves, close west-facing blinds, keep the filter clean and set the thermostat steady instead of turning it way down. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour if something looks wrong.
We serve the west end from our Duarte head office, about a straight run east on the 210 past Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Claremont. Because the drive is longer than for valley cities, we plan each visit carefully. When you call, we ask about the equipment, its age and what it is doing, so the technician arrives with the parts most likely needed. That cuts down on second trips. We still answer 24/7, and we give honest arrival windows rather than promises we cannot keep.
The cities we reach are Upland, with its older downtown and newer north side homes; Rancho Cucamonga, with its master-planned neighborhoods and the Alta Loma and Etiwanda foothill areas; and Montclair, with its smaller postwar homes near the county line. Electricity in these cities comes from Southern California Edison and gas from SoCalGas. Ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open. We handle the permit where the city requires one.

We serve only the west end of San Bernardino County, closest to our Duarte office: Upland, Rancho Cucamonga and Montclair, plus neighborhoods next to Claremont. We do not travel farther east into the county. If you are unsure whether your address is covered, call (626) 879-0711 and we will tell you right away.
The west end of San Bernardino County is hotter than the San Gabriel Valley, so systems run longer each day and more days each year. Heat wears out capacitors, fan motors and compressors, and attic heat stresses air handlers and drain lines. Yearly maintenance and good attic insulation help equipment last longer.
We plan each visit to the west end of San Bernardino County before the technician leaves our Duarte office. When you call, we ask about the equipment and the problem, so the truck carries the parts most likely needed. That reduces return trips. We answer 24/7 at (626) 879-0711 and give a realistic arrival window.
Yes. Modern heat pumps are built to cool in high outdoor temperatures and heat efficiently through the mild winters in the west end of San Bernardino County. We size the system for inland heat, check ducts and the electrical panel, and explain the cost. Ask about current SCE rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
