El Monte sits low on the valley floor between the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River, with the 10 freeway running through it and the 605 along its east side.
El Monte has a large share of older homes, back units and small rental buildings, many with aging AC units and original ducts. Marco's technicians repair and replace AC systems and ductwork here, and work with both owners and landlords. El Monte is a short drive from our Duarte office down the 605. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7, and we quote before we start.
Overview
El Monte sits low on the valley floor between the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River, with the 10 freeway running through it and the 605 along its east side. It is one of the older cities in the valley, and its housing is a mix of postwar homes, lots with a front house and a back unit, small apartment buildings and mobile home parks. Summer heat hangs over the flats here, and older systems feel it first.
A lot of our El Monte work is practical: get the AC running today, then plan the bigger fix. Ducts installed 50 or 60 years ago are often torn, crushed or disconnected in the attic, so the system works hard and the rooms stay warm. For landlords, we keep notes on each unit so tenants get faster repairs and owners can plan replacements instead of facing them in July.

Many El Monte lots hold a 1940s or 1950s house in front and a second unit behind it, each with its own small system or a wall furnace and window AC. Small apartment buildings often use packaged units on the roof or through-wall units. Ducts in the older houses run through low attics, with flex duct that has sagged, kinked or split over time. Old metal ducts may have joints that were never sealed. When the ducts leak, the AC can be sized right and still fail to cool the house.
Mobile homes and manufactured homes in El Monte use a different kind of furnace and duct system, with the main duct running under the floor. Those ducts tear and separate, and pests get in. On double-wide homes the crossover duct that joins the two halves is a common failure. We check the crossover and the belly ducts whenever airflow is weak at the far end of the home.
Common problems
We often find flex ducts that have fallen off their collars or split open in the attic. The AC cools the attic instead of the house, and the electric bill climbs every month it runs.
Systems installed before 2010 often use R-22, a refrigerant no longer produced or imported in the US. Recharging them gets expensive, so a leak often tips the decision toward replacement.
The capacitor helps start the compressor and fan motors. Long, hot afternoons wear them out, and a failed one leaves the outdoor fan still or the compressor humming. It is a fast, common repair.
Small apartment buildings and shops along Valley Boulevard and Garvey Avenue often use rooftop package units. Worn belts, dirty coils and clogged drains are the usual causes of no cooling.
Ducts under manufactured homes tear, sag and come apart, letting cooled air and heat escape under the floor. Rodents get in too. We inspect, repair and reseal these runs.
Most requested
AC repair is the bulk of summer work in El Monte, mostly capacitors, contactors, fan motors and refrigerant leaks. Duct repair fixes a single broken run, and duct replacement makes sense when the whole system is old and leaking. AC replacement fits when an R-22 system has a major leak or a failed compressor. Rooftop unit repair covers apartment buildings and storefronts. Emergency HVAC repair matters because a no-cooling call in a rental during a heat wave cannot wait until next week.

Learn moreEl Monte summers often reach the high 90s and heat waves push past 100 F, and the flats can stay warm well into the evening. Winter nights fall into the 40s. Electricity comes from Southern California Edison and gas from SoCalGas, so ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open. We handle the permit where the city requires one, and Title 24 rules can require a duct leakage test when a system is replaced.
Our Duarte office is close: down the 605 to the 10, or along Lower Azusa Road. For rental properties, we can coordinate with tenants directly on access times, and we tell the owner what we found and what it costs before larger work starts. Owners with several units on one lot often schedule them on the same visit to save time. Call (626) 879-0711 at any hour.
Questions
Yes. Many El Monte owners have a front house and a back unit, or a small building with several units. We coordinate access with tenants, repair what is broken, and send the owner a clear explanation and price before larger work. For properties with several systems, a maintenance plan helps catch worn parts before they fail in summer.
If the R-22 system in your El Monte home has a small electrical problem like a bad capacitor, repair is usually sensible. If it has a refrigerant leak or a failed compressor, replacement is often better value, because R-22 is no longer produced or imported in the US and recharges keep getting more expensive. We give you both prices so you can decide.
Signs include weak airflow at the far rooms, dust around registers, rooms that never cool, and an attic that feels cool when the AC runs. We inspect the attic, look for torn, crushed or disconnected runs and can test for leakage. If only a few runs are bad, repair works. If the whole system is old, replacement is usually the better value.
We answer 24/7 at (626) 879-0711, and our Duarte office is a short drive from El Monte. During heat waves calls stack up across the valley, so we give a realistic arrival window rather than a promise we cannot keep. Many no-cooling calls are fixed the same visit when the part, such as a capacitor or contactor, is on the truck.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
