La Puente is a small, tight-knit city in the eastern San Gabriel Valley, with Hacienda Boulevard running north and south through it and the 10 and 60 freeways a short drive away on either side.
Many La Puente homes are 1950s tract houses that started with a wall furnace and window units, and plenty still have no central air. Others run older systems that keep losing refrigerant. Marco's installs new AC, finds and repairs refrigerant leaks, and adds cooling to backyard units. We quote the price before work starts. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Overview
La Puente is a small, tight-knit city in the eastern San Gabriel Valley, with Hacienda Boulevard running north and south through it and the 10 and 60 freeways a short drive away on either side. Much of the city is made up of modest single-story homes built in the 1950s, on small lots with a front lawn, a driveway and a back yard that more families are now using for a second unit.
Our calls here are often about cooling that never was. A lot of La Puente houses have gotten through summers with window units and fans, and owners finally want a real system. Others have an AC that gets topped off with refrigerant every summer without anyone finding the leak. Our Duarte head office reaches La Puente down the 605 and along the 10 or 60. We explain the options in plain words and quote before starting.

The classic La Puente house is a two or three bedroom stucco home from the 1950s, about one thousand square feet, with a gas wall furnace in the hallway and a shallow attic. Central air, where it exists, was added later with a condenser in the side yard and a furnace or air handler set in the garage or attic. Some owners have added bedrooms or enclosed patios, and the original small furnace never got upgraded to match. Adding AC to a house like this means looking at the electrical panel, the attic space and where the ducts can run.
Backyard units are becoming common on La Puente lots. A new unit needs its own heating and cooling, and a ductless mini-split or small heat pump usually fits best.
Common problems
Many La Puente homes still cool with window units. They are loud, cool only one room and strain older wiring. A properly sized central or ductless system replaces them.
An AC that needs refrigerant every summer has a leak, often at the indoor coil or a brazed joint. Topping it off only delays the next failure and costs more over time.
Systems installed before 2010 often use R-22, which is no longer produced or imported in the US. When they leak or lose a compressor, replacement usually makes more sense.
Original panels in 1950s homes may not have room for a new AC or heat pump circuit. We check the panel first and explain the options before any equipment is ordered.
New units sometimes get a portable AC or a space heater as an afterthought. Planning the HVAC with the build gives better comfort and passes inspection more easily.
Most requested
AC installation is the biggest need in La Puente because so many homes never had central air. Refrigerant leak repair matters for the homes that do: we find the leak with electronic detection or nitrogen pressure testing, then fix it or replace the part. Evaporator coil replacement is often the real fix when the indoor coil has corroded. Wall furnace repair keeps the original heater safe for winter, ADU HVAC installation serves backyard units, and AC repair handles the everyday breakdowns.

Learn moreLa Puente summers are hot and dry, often in the high 90s with heat waves past 100 F, and small stucco homes hold heat well into the evening. Winter nights drop into the 40s. Electricity comes from Southern California Edison and gas from SoCalGas. Ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open.
We handle the permit where the city requires one, including for new AC systems and backyard unit HVAC. Title 24 rules can require a duct leakage test when an AC or furnace is replaced. On small lots, we plan where the condenser can sit with proper clearance and without blocking a side gate or a neighbor's window. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Questions
Yes. In a La Puente home with only a wall furnace, we can install a new furnace or air handler with attic ducts and an outdoor AC, a heat pump with ducts, or a ductless system with heads in key rooms. We check the attic, the electrical panel and the room layout first, then quote each choice so you can compare.
An AC is a sealed system, so needing refrigerant every year in La Puente means it has a leak. Common spots are the indoor coil, the outdoor coil, valve cores and brazed joints. We find the leak, show you where it is and quote the repair or part replacement, so you stop paying for the same recharge every year.
For most La Puente backyard units, a ductless mini-split heat pump works best. It cools and heats, needs no ducts and runs on a dedicated circuit. We size it to the unit, check the main panel and handle the permit where the city requires one. Planning it during construction keeps the walls and electrical simple.
If your La Puente AC runs on R-22 and has a leak or a failing compressor, replacement usually makes more sense, since R-22 is costly and no longer produced. If the problem is a small part like a capacitor, repair is reasonable. We give both prices and explain the tradeoffs so you can decide.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
