Burbank stretches from the Verdugo Mountains across the east end of the San Fernando Valley, home to the big media studios, Hollywood Burbank Airport and the shops of Magnolia Park.
Burbank sits in the San Fernando Valley, where summer afternoons often run hotter than in Pasadena. Marco's repairs central air conditioners, seals leaky attic ducts, replaces worn indoor coils and adds attic insulation so postwar homes stay cooler for less. Power here comes from Burbank Water and Power, and we explain how that affects your options. Call (626) 879-0711 any time.
Overview
Burbank stretches from the Verdugo Mountains across the east end of the San Fernando Valley, home to the big media studios, Hollywood Burbank Airport and the shops of Magnolia Park. Most of its houses went up in the 1940s and 1950s on regular grid streets, with hillside homes on the slopes above and the horse properties of the Rancho area near Griffith Park. Valley heat is the main story here, and summer afternoons over 100 F come often.
Our Old Pasadena office is a short drive west on the 134 Freeway, past Glendale. Many Burbank calls come in on the hottest afternoons, when an aging system finally falls behind. Our technicians find the cause instead of just adding refrigerant, explain it in plain words and give the price before the repair. We also look at the ducts and the attic, because in Burbank that is often where the cooling gets lost.

A typical Burbank house from the 1940s or 1950s is single-story with a low-pitched roof, a furnace in a hall closet or the garage, and ducts snaking across the attic. Central air was usually added years later. The original attic insulation was thin, and much of it has settled or been disturbed by remodels and cable runs. On a summer afternoon, that attic can be the hottest place on the property, and every duct running through it picks up heat before the air reaches a room.
Hillside homes above the city have more varied layouts and more sun exposure. Rancho area properties sometimes have barns or studios that need their own cooling. Across all of them, valley heat puts more hours on the air conditioner each year than many Pasadena systems see.
Common problems
Systems that run nonstop and still cannot bring the temperature down often have leaky ducts, a dirty coil or low refrigerant. We test each one instead of guessing, so the fix matches the fault.
Old taped joints fail and flex ducts sag in the attic. Cool air leaks out and hot attic air gets pulled in. Sealing with mastic and fixing sags recovers much of the lost cooling.
Insulation that has thinned out lets roof heat pour into the ceilings. Adding insulation lowers the heat load and lets a modest AC keep up on the hottest days.
Coils that work long seasons in hot conditions can corrode and develop small leaks. If the coil is failing on an older system, we compare coil replacement with a full system replacement.
Outdoor units in full afternoon sun on a concrete side yard run hotter. Clean coils and proper clearance help, and at replacement time we look for a better spot when one exists.
Most requested
Air conditioners in Burbank carry a heavy load every summer, so AC repair is the most common call we get here. Duct sealing and attic insulation often make the biggest difference after a repair, since the attic is where postwar homes lose their cooling. Evaporator coil replacement fixes recurring leaks without replacing everything. A whole-house fan can cool the house on mild evenings after the sun goes down, and a smart thermostat helps you run the AC less during the most expensive hours.

Learn moreWe measure duct leakage with a calibrated fan, seal joints with mastic, and test again so you see the actual improvement.
Learn moreReplace a corroded or leaking indoor AC coil with a matched one, a fresh drain pan and a proper vacuum and recharge.
Learn moreAir sealing first, then blown-in insulation to the right depth, so your ceilings stop radiating attic heat into the rooms.
Learn moreQuiet, insulated whole house fans that pull cool evening air through your home and flush the hot attic, with venting sized right.

Learn moreBurbank homes buy electricity from Burbank Water and Power, the city's own utility, and gas from SoCalGas. Ask about current BWP or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open, since BWP programs differ from SCE's. We handle the permit where the city requires one, and California energy rules (Title 24) can require duct leakage testing when an AC or furnace is replaced.
Heat waves in Burbank often run a few degrees hotter than in Pasadena, and AC calls climb fast once afternoons pass 100 F. A tune-up and duct check in spring gives you time to fix leaks before summer. Attic work is best scheduled for mornings, when the attic is cooler and safer for the technician.
Questions
In many Burbank homes, the cause is a mix of leaky attic ducts, thin insulation, a dirty coil and sometimes low refrigerant. A system that was fine on 90 degree days can fall behind past 100. We measure temperatures, pressures and airflow, inspect the attic, and tell you which fix will help most before anyone suggests a bigger unit.
Burbank Water and Power runs its own programs, separate from SCE, and they change over time. Ask about current BWP rebates, SoCalGas offers and state heat pump incentives when funding is open. We tell you which equipment we quote is likely to qualify and give you the model numbers and details the program asks for.
In most postwar Burbank homes, yes. Ducts in hot attics with failed tape and loose joints can lose a lot of cooled air before it reaches the rooms. We test the ducts, seal joints and boots with mastic, fix sagging runs and retest. Many owners notice cooler rooms and shorter run times afterward, especially at the far ends of the house.
If your attic insulation is thin or settled, adding more is one of the best ways to help your AC on hot Burbank afternoons. Less roof heat reaches the rooms and the ducts, so the system runs less. We check the depth and condition of what you have, seal obvious air leaks first, then add insulation to a sensible level.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
