Brea grew up as an oil town in the early 1900s, and the hills on its north and east sides still carry that history.
Brea mixes older homes near downtown, postwar and 1970s tracts, and newer hillside homes toward Carbon Canyon and the east side. Many still run gas furnaces and older central AC that are good candidates for a heat pump when they wear out. Marco's technicians drive down the 57 from Duarte to repair furnaces, install heat pumps and fix ducts. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Overview
Brea grew up as an oil town in the early 1900s, and the hills on its north and east sides still carry that history. Today the city is best known for Brea Mall and the walkable Downtown Brea district around Birch Street. The 57 freeway runs along the west side of town and Imperial Highway crosses it east to west, while Carbon Canyon Road climbs toward Chino Hills. Neighborhoods range from older streets near downtown to newer homes on the hillsides.
For us, Brea is the closest Orange County city to our Duarte office, a straight run south on the 57 over the hills. The weather is a little milder than the inland valley, but summer afternoons still get hot, and hillside homes take strong sun. Many Brea houses are now on their second or third heating and cooling system. We help owners decide when to repair a furnace or AC and when a heat pump makes more sense.

Near downtown, some Brea homes date to the early part of the last century, and a few still have wall furnaces or older gas furnaces with ducts added later. The large postwar and 1960s to 1970s tracts across the middle of the city are mostly single story, with a furnace in a closet, garage or attic and ducts in the attic. Many of those homes had central air added after they were built, and the ducts can be small for cooling.
Newer homes in the hills toward Carbon Canyon and on the east side are often two stories with larger rooms, high ceilings and big windows. They usually have attic air handlers, and the upstairs runs warm on summer afternoons. Sloped lots can make the outdoor unit hard to reach.
Common problems
Many Brea homes still run furnaces that are 20 years old or more. Worn igniters, weak flame sensors and failing inducer motors cause no-heat calls on the first cold nights.
When both systems are near the end of their life, paying for two replacements makes less sense. A heat pump can replace both in one installation.
Tract homes that got central air later often have ducts sized for heat. Airflow is weak, rooms at the ends stay warm and the coil can freeze.
Two-story hill homes with big west-facing windows gain a lot of afternoon heat. A single thermostat downstairs leaves bedrooms warm well into the evening.
A few older Brea homes still use a wall furnace for heat. These need regular safety checks, and replacement parts can be hard to find for old models.
Most requested
Heat pump installation and gas to heat pump conversion are good options in Brea when both the AC and furnace are aging, since one heat pump covers both jobs in this mild winter climate. Furnace repair keeps an older system running safely through cold snaps, and furnace replacement makes sense when the unit is old and repairs keep adding up. Duct replacement fixes the weak airflow common in tract homes with added AC. Wall furnace repair keeps the older homes near downtown warm and safe.

Learn moreBrea summers are warm to hot, a few degrees milder than the inland valley but still well into the 90s during heat waves, and hillside homes catch strong sun. Winter nights can fall into the 40s and sometimes the upper 30s. Santa Ana winds blow through the canyons in fall and winter. Electricity comes from Southern California Edison and gas from SoCalGas. Ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open.
We handle the permit where the city requires one, and Title 24 can require a duct leakage test on replacement. From Duarte we take the 57 south, so we plan each visit and bring likely parts. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour.
Questions
If your Brea furnace and AC are both getting old, a heat pump is worth a close look. It heats well in Brea's mild winters and cools like a central AC in summer, all in one system. We check your electrical panel, ducts and home size, then compare the cost to a new furnace and AC. Ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives.
In many Brea homes this is a dirty flame sensor, a weak igniter or a draft problem in the vent. The furnace lights, does not confirm the flame and shuts down for safety. Sometimes a clogged filter causes the furnace to overheat and trip a limit switch. Replace the filter first, then call (626) 879-0711 and we will test the parts and fix the cause.
Brea is a direct run south on the 57 from our Duarte office, and it is the closest part of Orange County for us. Drive time depends on traffic, so we give you an honest arrival window when you call. We ask about your system and the problem first, so the technician brings the likely parts. We answer 24/7 at (626) 879-0711.
Sometimes, but many Brea tract homes have ducts that were sized for heating before central air was added. Small or leaky ducts limit airflow, which hurts cooling and strains a new system. We measure static pressure and airflow and test for leaks before quoting. If the ducts need sealing, resizing or replacement, we tell you plainly and include it in the price.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
