Overview

Heating and cooling help in Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County is huge, and we do not try to cover all of it. Our service area is the part we know best: the San Gabriel Valley and the foothill communities along the San Gabriel Mountains, reaching west to Glendale, Burbank, the Crescenta Valley and the northeast Los Angeles neighborhoods next to Pasadena. That keeps drive times reasonable from our two offices and lets our technicians learn the housing street by street.

Across that area the work changes with the place. Old Pasadena and Highland Park have Craftsman bungalows with floor furnaces. Arcadia and Temple City have big new two-story homes. Monrovia, Sierra Madre, Altadena and Glendora sit right under the mountains with fire season concerns. El Monte and Rosemead have postwar houses with wall furnaces and window units. Each city page on this site covers what we see there.

The range of housing across our part of the county

The county portion we serve has some of the oldest housing in Southern California. Craftsman bungalows from the 1900s to 1920s and Spanish Revival homes from the 1920s fill Pasadena, South Pasadena, Highland Park and parts of Glendale and Alhambra. Many were built with floor furnaces or wall furnaces, and central air was added later or never. Postwar ranch homes from the 1940s to 1960s cover much of Arcadia, Temple City, Covina, West Covina and El Monte, usually with attic ducts and a closet or garage furnace.

Newer housing includes large two-story homes built on older lots in Arcadia, Temple City and San Gabriel, hillside houses in La Canada Flintridge, Monterey Park and the West Covina hills, and backyard ADUs going up in almost every city. Each needs a different approach to heating and cooling.

Common problems

Common HVAC issues across the San Gabriel Valley

Summer heat waves

Valley afternoons often reach the high 90s and pass 100 F. Long run times wear out capacitors, fan motors and compressors, and older systems fall behind on the hottest days.

Wildfire smoke and ash

Foothill cities face smoke during fire season. The January 2025 Eaton Fire left smoke and ash in many homes near Altadena and Pasadena, and duct inspection and cleaning were part of recovery.

Old gas wall and floor furnaces

Older homes still run decades-old wall and floor furnaces. We test for carbon monoxide, check venting, and help owners decide between repair, replacement or a heat pump.

Leaky attic ducts

Original or aging attic ducts leak cooled air into hot attics across the valley. Sealing or replacing them often fixes weak airflow and high summer bills.

Santa Ana wind dust

Wind days push dust and debris into outdoor coils and filters across the foothill cities. Regular coil cleaning and filter changes keep systems running normally.

What we do most across the county

AC repair and emergency HVAC repair keep homes cool through heat waves, and our 24/7 phone line means a breakdown at night still gets answered. Furnace repair covers cold nights in the 30s and 40s. Heat pump installation is growing as owners replace old gas furnaces and AC together. Duct cleaning is most useful after smoke events when debris is present. A maintenance plan puts two system checks a year on the calendar, which prevents many of the summer and winter breakdowns.

AC Repair

Warm air, a humming outdoor unit or a tripped breaker: we find the failed part and fix most AC problems in one visit.

Furnace Repair

No heat on a cold night? We trace the ignition sequence, find the failed part and fix most furnaces in a single visit.

Heat Pump Installation

New ducted and inverter heat pumps sized to your Pasadena home, with permits, line sets, electrical and duct checks included in the quote.

Air Duct Cleaning

Camera inspection first, then negative-pressure HEPA cleaning of supply, return, blower and coil when your ducts actually need it.

24/7 Emergency HVAC Repair

Night, weekend and holiday repairs for a dead AC in a heat wave or a furnace that quits on a cold night, any hour.

HVAC Maintenance Plans

Two visits a year, cooling in spring and heating in fall, so small problems get caught before a heat wave or a cold night.

Practical notes for Los Angeles County homeowners

Rebuilding after the Eaton Fire continues in Altadena and nearby, and we approach that work carefully and respectfully. Rebuild homes need new HVAC designed to current energy rules, often with heat pumps, sealed ducts and good filtration. Homes that survived but took in smoke may need duct inspection, filter upgrades and sometimes cleaning. We look first and only recommend what the house needs.

Traffic matters in this part of the county. We route technicians from whichever office is closer, and we give honest arrival windows rather than promises we cannot keep. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour and tell us your city, the problem and anything about access, and we will plan the visit.

How we cover the San Gabriel Valley and foothills

We run two offices so no part of the area is a long trip. Our Old Pasadena office on Colorado Boulevard covers Pasadena and its neighborhoods, Altadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Glendale, Burbank, La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta and northeast Los Angeles. Our head office in Duarte covers the eastern half of the valley: Arcadia, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, Azusa, Glendora, Covina, West Covina, El Monte, Temple City, Rosemead and nearby. The 210 freeway ties the two together, so a technician can cross the valley quickly when a call needs the right person or part.

Utilities differ across the county, and that matters for rebates. Pasadena Water and Power serves Pasadena. Glendale and Burbank run their own city utilities, as does Azusa. The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power serves the city of Los Angeles. Southern California Edison covers most other valley cities, and SoCalGas provides gas almost everywhere. Ask about current rebates from your utility and state heat pump incentives when funding is open. We handle the permit where the city requires one, and Title 24 rules can require duct leakage testing on replacements.
