Montebello sits on the western edge of the San Gabriel Valley, between East Los Angeles and Pico Rivera, with Whittier Boulevard running through its commercial center and the Montebello Town Center near the 60 freeway.
Montebello has a deep stock of homes from the 1920s through the 1950s, and many still run on furnaces that are decades old, including floor furnaces in some of the oldest houses. Marco's replaces worn furnaces, upgrades floor furnaces to safer systems and tunes up air conditioners before summer. We quote before work starts. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Overview
Montebello sits on the western edge of the San Gabriel Valley, between East Los Angeles and Pico Rivera, with Whittier Boulevard running through its commercial center and the Montebello Town Center near the 60 freeway. The Montebello Hills rise on the north side of the city. Because it is closer to downtown Los Angeles than the eastern valley, it grew early, and many of its neighborhoods were built well before the postwar boom.
Those older homes are why heating is a bigger part of our work here than in some newer cities. A furnace that has run for twenty five or thirty winters, or a floor furnace set under a hallway grate, is a real safety and comfort question. We reach Montebello from our Duarte head office down the 605 and west on the 60. Our technicians walk you through repair against replacement and give you the price before any work begins.

Montebello's oldest neighborhoods have small bungalows and Spanish style homes from the 1920s and 1930s, many with raised wood floors and a crawlspace underneath. Some still heat with a floor furnace in the hallway, a single grate that warms the middle of the house and leaves the bedrooms cold. Others had a central furnace added in a closet or the attic later on, often with ducts that were squeezed into whatever space was left. Central air in these homes was usually an afterthought.
Postwar streets from the 1940s and 1950s have ranch and minimal traditional homes with a furnace in the hall closet or garage and attic ducts. Their systems are simpler to replace, but many are on their second or third furnace and a condenser that has not been cleaned in years.
Common problems
Older furnaces in Montebello closets develop worn igniters, failing inducer motors and rusted burners. A cracked heat exchanger is the most serious finding and usually means replacement rather than repair.
Floor furnaces sit under a hot grate in the hallway, heat unevenly and are hard to keep in good condition. Many owners replace them with a central furnace, a heat pump or ductless heads.
Condensers on Montebello lots collect dust from busy boulevards and freeways. Without a yearly cleaning and check, weak capacitors and dirty coils fail on the first hot week of summer.
Many homes still run a dial thermostat that drifts a few degrees and cannot schedule. A modern thermostat helps the furnace and AC run when you are home, not all day.
Ducts added to 1920s homes often run through tight crawlspaces with uninsulated joints. Leaks there pull in dusty air and waste heat before it reaches the bedrooms.
Most requested
Montebello's housing age makes furnace repair and furnace replacement common calls each fall and winter. Floor furnace replacement is a big step up in comfort and safety for the oldest homes, and we size the new system to the whole house instead of one hallway. When both the furnace and AC are old, an HVAC system replacement handles everything in one project with matched equipment. AC maintenance each spring keeps cooling reliable, and a smart thermostat installation gives better control of both.

Learn moreMontebello is a little closer to the ocean than the eastern San Gabriel Valley, but summer afternoons still often reach the 90s and heat waves can pass 100 F. Winter nights fall into the 40s, which is when tired furnaces show their problems. Electricity comes from Southern California Edison and gas from SoCalGas. Ask about current SCE or SoCalGas rebates and state heat pump incentives when funding is open.
We handle the permit where the city requires one. California Title 24 rules can require a duct leakage test when a furnace or AC is replaced, and we include that step in our plan. The best time to replace a furnace is late summer or early fall, before the first cold snap. Call (626) 879-0711 any hour, 24/7.
Questions
If your Montebello floor furnace is very old, heats only the hallway or needs repeated repairs, replacement is usually worth it. Common choices are a central gas furnace with new ducts, a heat pump that adds cooling, or ductless heads in key rooms. We look at the crawlspace, the attic and the electrical panel and price each option before you choose.
Signs include a burner flame that flickers or changes when the blower starts, soot near the furnace, a carbon monoxide alarm or a furnace that shuts down on safety. During service in Montebello we inspect the heat exchanger with a camera where we can reach it and test combustion. If we find a crack, we shut the furnace down and explain the options.
Spring is best, usually March through May, before Montebello's first hot spell. A tune-up includes cleaning the condenser coil, checking refrigerant pressures, testing the capacitor and contactor, clearing the condensate drain and measuring how well the system cools. If a part is wearing out, we tell you and quote before any repair.
Yes. When both are old, replacing them together in a Montebello home means matched equipment, one permit where the city requires it and one duct test if Title 24 calls for it. It also lets us fix duct problems at the same time. We quote the full project before work starts and schedule around your family.
Call our Pasadena line any hour. A person answers, asks a few questions about the system, and gives you an arrival window.
